![]() I love so much of the features in this game, the secret exits, the triangle block that lets you run up walls, the Chargin' Chucks, the cape and of course Yoshi. Not that all the stages were perfect, that cave stage in the valley of Bowser with the constantly shifting ground is one of the most boring stages i've endured in a mario title but I digress. Yoshi's Island 3: All the stages in Yoshi's island serve as good introductory levels without being too simple (something both NSMB games could have done better with) and this one stands out the most to me. Vanilla Fortress: Easily my favourite water stage in any Mario game ![]() ![]() Morton's Castle: For an early game castle it has a lot to it Mondo: If my naming is correct this was the stage with the water that floods what would otherwise be a basic overworld stage The control of Mario in SMW is arguably the best it has ever been in any mario platformer, he seems a bit too slippy for my liking in SMB3.īut when it boils down to it, it's the level design of SMW that truly elevates it above SMB3 for me, some of my favourites being. 3, it was frustrating and simply not fun to play.Īs already mentioned the stages in SMB3 can be too short, they seem to end before they really get going whereas I feel that SMW doesn't suffer this problem. But I had a frustrating experience with Mario Bros. I had a wonderful experience with Mario World. Also, the cape was a whole lot better and more fun to use than that nonsensical racoon suit. 3 (world made out of blocks, checkered floors, random stuff on the sky).Īlso, the game was easier and funner to play, less reliance on having to play the same level over and over again until you cleared it, but instead on finding new routes and exploring new levels. It's not fair to talk about graphics, but Mario World's consistent art style helped make the island a more real place, rather than the whole artsy thing going on in Mario Bros. 3, but in a much more melodic way and catchier way. Mario World definitely had better music to me, it kept the playful tone of Mario Bros. ![]() However, I still feel Mario World is better with it's other aspects as well. If we go by technical stuff, Mario World wins by default. ![]() Not much that can be said that can't be refuted by opinion. ![]()
